Interior design philosophy

The balance between the inner and the outer is essential. It is undeniable that life is created from the inside out. However, we can also support wellbeing in the opposite direction. If you want a life full of experiences and nuances, environments with art, materiality, colors and sensory experiences contribute to expanding the inner.

"What would you call your interior design style?", I was once asked. The short answer is: My own. The slightly elaborated answer is that I don't have a specific style. I have my creativity and intuition. Everything I do comes from within, and it has to make sense to me on a deeper level.

Of course, I have learned a lot about light, space, colors, etc. through the hard work I have done over the last many years. I bring that knowledge and learning into play in every single interior design and product. However, my most important tool is and will always be the creativity that I humbly draw from what I meet on my way, and which I play with and use every single day.

For me, interior design is a mirror of the human heart, and I ask not only: "What kind of house is this", but just as importantly: "Who are the people who live or work here". The meeting with the people behind - you as a customer - is crucial, and it is therefore a prerequisite for our collaboration that there is the right chemistry between us. We quickly find out at the first conversation or meeting.

"I work holistically and fundamentally believe that the overall experience is more than the sum of the individual spaces. That's why I primarily take on projects where there is a desire to make a radical change"

- Anne Lawaetz Haaning

We humans are influenced by our surroundings, which for this reason can have a direct impact on our quality of life. Here, the home and the workplace naturally take up most of the space, which is why I work with both The Personal Home and The Nurturing Workplace.

I want to bring all aspects into play to achieve the complete experience. In the process of designing your home or business, I therefore consider everything from the architecture itself to the final interior design, as well as the creative phases in between; materiality, colors, lighting, interiors and the functional focus. This creates the natural flow that ultimately gives you the experience of spending your time in a setting that inspires and uplifts you.

I think harmony is created when all the elements are complete. Often one or more of the parts will be in place before I am brought into play, and then we take a natural starting point from there.

I am driven by high quality and never cut corners. I would rather have a little, but good, and that is the approach I take to you as a customer. Therefore, I also require that we play with open cards in our collaboration in relation to your financial framework for the project, so that we can do it wholeheartedly, whether it is to be taken in one or several stages.

Below, you can dive a little deeper into my thoughts on each phase.

Architecture

I offer to approach projects from the first creative sketch. This applies to both new builds and renovations, and I have proven experience in both.

On the architectural assignments I bring in my strategic partner, and through this I offer a large selection of the classic architectural assignments. My partner is my talented childhood friend from Langeland, architect maa Eske Ramvad, who brings years of experience into the collaboration from his previous jobs at recognized design studios.

Eske and I form a joint creative team, and typically I will be responsible for the overall project management of the task and thus tie everything together for you as a customer.

"Colors and patterns - bold and balanced. It's my specialty and it's one of the tools I use when creating the flow in a home"

Materiality

I offer sparring and advice in relation to the choice of all the solid surfaces in the interior design, ie. choice of floors, walls, ceilings, windows, fixtures - and of course kitchen, bath and wardrobe with all that it entails.

The choice of materials in the interior design - together with the colors - gives the rooms an extra edge. A well-crafted composition of materials creates texture and helps to define the personal interior design.

I am very passionate about combining materials and believe that it adds more dimensions to the interior design experience.

Colors and shades

Color is one of the most transformative and least expensive means of redecorating. Therefore, creating a coherent color plan is always an essential part of my interior design.

I work very closely with the colors, and behind every single color proposal is a well thought-out thought and a clear purpose. Each color has its own history, strengths and weaknesses, and the color must be carefully placed in the rooms in relation to. The color must be carefully placed in the rooms in relation to corners of the world, light impact, interior of the room in question, adjacent rooms and much more.

Colors and light have a huge impact on our psyche and well-being - that's why I make an effort.

The choice of color is always a collaboration with the people I decorate for. I always examine the natural light and the external environment. As a result of this creative process, you get an overall color plan that creates a harmonious experience across all spaces.

Lighting

The right lighting is an essential part of the overall experience of the room - especially in the deep work with colors. I work with many small light sources that together create the desired effect.

In my experience, the strategic placement of spot lighting brings out all the details of the room and creates coziness. The small light sources are also a way to divide the space into small zones.

The correct lighting plan balances the room and highlights the beautiful fabrics and colors. Light makes the room a place where you feel at home. That's why lighting is always an integral part of my interior design.

On commercial projects, I often bring professional lighting designers into the collaboration.

Art & interior

Of course, art and interiors play a crucial role in the overall experience of interior design. Art and interiors cover everything we fill rooms with - such as curtains, furniture, lighting sources, carpets, art, cushions and other items.

I always start from the interior you already have. Maybe you have everything you need to create the optimal interior design. Most often, however, in my experience, it will be necessary to add additional furnishings to create a complete and harmonious look. Cushions and curtains can make big differences in the overall decor as 'little spots'. The same goes for art.

I offer sale of unique interiors from my own production, partly based on beautiful recycled finds that are up-cycled, modernized and refined. Of course, you are not obliged to buy my interiors. On the other hand, my interiors are often an integral part of the aesthetic direction you buy by collaborating with me, and thus Anne Haaning Curated products will typically naturally be included in my presentations, unless you clearly want the opposite.

We always set clear expectations before we start, which is why a concrete procurement budget is also mandatory for me.

Through our cooperation, you get access to some advantageous discounts on quality paints, fittings, furniture and more.

I also often help my interior design clients negotiate the best prices for the new interiors that we agree you want to invest in.

Functionality

Aesthetics and practicality are both important factors in design. Practical and functional thinking, for example in the form of intelligent storage, can even be a decisive factor in the long-term sustainability of the aesthetics.

I do not believe that functionality and aesthetics are contradictory, on the contrary, they depend on each other for a successful outcome. Therefore, it is crucial to balance these two aspects to achieve the best result. As an interior designer, it is my job to find this balance.

Furnishings at the address

The interior design itself is the "crowning glory" and is the final part of my creative processes. This is where I "play". I take over the address for a while and decorate for you.

In the creative process leading up to the actual interior design, I have worked with specific locations of the interior, but ultimately it is all decided "live - on location" when I stand with the actual interior in my hands - in the actual rooms. This is where the magic happens, and when I call it "my game" it is because I love the creative process of feeling and trying out different setups.

As part of the interior design process, I have carte blanche to move the interior around to create the optimal layout. We agree on some general ground rules beforehand and respect your wishes regarding the individual functions of the rooms. Art and other wall-hung interiors are marked, while the actual practical hanging is done by yourself or a craftsman.
